HKADC statement on Steven Wong’s doping case
2013-01-23

HKADC has been paying attention to the former Hong Kong cyclist, Mr. Steven Wong’s doping case. No matter if this is a result of wrong decision under pressure or careless unintentional mistake, any doping case involving Hong Kong athletes is a regretting moment. However, we are pleased to see that Mr. Wong readily accepted the imposed sanction and apologized to his supporters. HKADC would like to take the chance to remind athletes the importance of protecting themselves from getting involved in any doping case. Please refer this link for some important tips that all athletes should carefully study and observe.

As a role model to the young generation of Hong Kong, elite athletes should always respect the integrity of sport. Under no situation should drugs be involved and the “win at all cost” attitude must be stamped out.

HKADC is committed to preserve a doping-free environment in Hong Kong. In the year of 2012, more than 300 doping control have been conducted among the Hong Kong athletes and over 3,000 individuals have participated in our education efforts. Even though we are confident that most Hong Kong athletes are clean, our anti-doping efforts must be continued.

Last but not least, we would like to call for the public’s support on our work as fair play is not only the core values in sport but also in life.
