【Supplement Warning】 Amphetamine-like compound found in products
2013-11-21

USA Food and Drug Administration scientists tested 21 supplements listing Acacia rigidula (a bushy plant found in Texas and Mexico) as ingredient and found 9 containing beta-methylphenethylamine, a “non-natural” amphetamine-like compound that could cause a positive doping test. The concerned supplements were marketed for weight loss, energy boosting and mood stabilizing. It appears to be the latest example of the industry trend of spiking dietary supplements with stimulants. Athletes should avoid supplements made by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals including Fastin-XR, Stimerex and Lipodrene Hardcore which listed Acacia rigidula as an ingredient. HKADC again takes this opportunity to warn athletes against the risk of taking supplement which could contain unlisted ingredients that are prohibited in sports.
