Drug Testing |
|
Drug Testing (also known as Doping Control) is the detection of the presence of prohibited substances in athletes. The process involves collecting samples (urine, blood or other bodily specimen) from athletes, arranging for WADA accredited laboratory analysis and managing of the test results. Sample collection can be conducted in-competition and out-of-competition with no advance notice. For out-of-competition testing, athletes may be selected for sample collection at anytime and anywhere. For in-competition testing, the event organizers and governing bodies determine the selection of athletes for drug testing. After sample collection, HKADC is responsible for arranging sample analysis by a WADA accredited laboratory and for results management. Why doping control? Why doping control? Why it is important for athletes? Similar to the technical rules of any sport, the anti-doping rules, are designed to prevent any participant from taking unfair advantage over another. It protects the right of the clean athletes to compete in a doping-free environment. It also prevents athletes from being compelled to use unhealthy or dangerous methods in attempted to be competitive. Why is it needed in Hong Kong?
In relation to this, the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China and HKADC have signed the World Anti-Doping Code on 2 March 2004 & 2 January 2009 respectively and have committed to comply with the internationally recognized anti-doping regulations.
