Phase 2 of the HKADC Testing Programme |
|
Phase 1 of the testing programme, including only 99 athletes, is not acceptable for the long run. In order to effectively detect and prevent doping practice in Hong Kong, Phase 2 of the testing programme will be launched on or after 1 April 2010. Both in-competition and out-of-competition testing will be conducted. A three-tier HKADC testing pool that includes larger number of athletes will be set up. Athletes included in the testing pool will be monitored by random no-notice out-of-competition testing. More details about the new arrangement are provided below. In-competition Testing
Among all the sports being included in the out-of-competition testing programme, 10 sports will be included in the in-competition testing programme. The selection is based on the higher risk for these sports to have athletes using performance enhancing drugs during competition. The following 10 sports have been selected for inclusion in the in-competition testing programme:
Athletes, Billiards, Bodybuilding, Boxing, Cycling, Shooting, Swimming, Triathlon, Weight Lifting, and Windsurfing.
The concerned National Sport Associations (NSAs) will be invited to provide HKADC the schedule of local events at the beginning of the year. HKADC will select the events for in-competition testing. The concerned NSAs will then be formally informed of the selection. Theses NSAs should then formally inform all participating athletes of the events about the drug testing arrangement and provide necessary assistance to HKADC during the events.
