Bodybuilding.com, an online forum and store for bodybuilders, has recently recalled 65 dietary supplements that have been identified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States as steroids-containing products. FDA has urged people who have any of the Recalled Products in their possession to stop using them immediately and contact their physician if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking them.
In relation to this, the Hong Kong Anti-Doping Committee would like all concerned parties to be aware of:-
1. Risk of inadvertent doping Athletes, who are using supplements, please be aware of the risk of inadvertent doping and that steroids are prohibited substances on the Prohibited List. The use of these and similar products may lead to a positive drug test. According to the principle of strict liability, an athlete is responsible for the presence of prohibited substance in his/her body no matter the athlete intentionally or unintentionally uses a prohibited substance.
2. Associated health risks Adverse effects and serious health risks could associate with the use of such products. Acute liver injury and kidney failure are examples of medical problems associate with the use of steroids.
